Guys + Beer + Strip Club - Fiancee = Strip Club

Last night a bunch of us went out for my friend and former instrumental analysis TA, Stuart MacDonald. He graduated from chem two years ago and I hadn't seen him since. I kew him for a ocuple of years at McGill not knowing that I had asked out his sister while I attended Vanier College two years prior to meeting him. I had a crush on this girl during my second year of cegep and decided to call her up and ask her out. Turned out a friend of mine beat me to it by 2 hours (he also called her up and asked her out). Then 2 years later I see this girl in the chem building. When I asked her why she was there she replied "I'm here to see my brother" and then she walked up to Stuart, so that was really weird when it happened. Anyways, back to bachelor parties and naked women...So a bunch of us were at Sam's apartment getting loaded and then we hit a strip club. Not Club Super Sexe, one of the most famous clubs in Montreal, but a place right next door, owned by the same people, called Super Contact! Once inside and 85$ later, we got our buddy Stuart on the stage with 2 strippers (who were both clothed). They took off his shirt and shorts and then made him go on all fours. Then one sat on his back and pulled down his undies so we saw his ass. After riding him like a horse for a few minutes they made him lie down on the stage and pulled off his boxers completely. Then they smacked his but cheeks several times with a belt. It was hilarious. Finally, when it was over, he had no shame at all and stood up completely naked. So we basically paid 85$ to see Stuarts wee wee. All the guys in the club stopped cheering at this point and covered their eyes "Ahh a naked MAN! I'm not gay! I'm NOT GAY!" (No one actually said that but I'm sure a few people were thinking it. It then took us a while to leave because as we were about to leave, we'd find a reason to stay longer like waiting for someone to finish their beer or something like that. Finally, Stuart made the call of leaving by running out of the club in a hurry with us chasing after him and then witnessing him basically puke the distance of a block. He was still good for more apperently because we hit up Peel Pub for a GIANT pitcher of beer (4L for 40$). All in all it was a great night.

Budman Sings The Darkness!

A while back I wrote how I went to a kareoke bar called Vocals and sang "I believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness. Well it turns out someone videotaped it with their camera or phone-camera and sent me a copy of it today. You can't see anything but you can hear my beautiful voice. Just block your ears near the end, I'll admit it gets pretty painful. Many thanks to Dustin for giving me space on his ftp to host this movie. So enjoy and remember to believe in a thing called L-O-V-E!

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today was my birthday! Yay! I turned 23! I didn't do anything super special because I ended up getting super drunk on friday. Instead, today I just took it easy. At work we usually shut down at 3:30 and gather around and drink tea. It's a tradition that when it's your birthday, you supply the cake. I ended up bringing raspberry pie for everyone from Rockaberry. Rockaberry is the coffee/pie place I used to work at before attending McGill. Their pies are amazing, especially their apple pie, but their service sucks. I don't even like raspberry but I figured why not make others happy. After work I went to Ben and Jerry's with my friend Nadine and she treated me to a milk shake. I got chocolate chip cookie dough. It was so good. AFterwards, I met up with some family. It turns out one of my cousins who lives in Stanford, Conneticut, participated in the Iron Man triathalon race this past weekend. He placed 300 out of 1800 participants. Since he, his wife and baby girl were so close to Montreal, they came to visit and in turn we had a tiny cousins reunion. It was fun because it happened to fall on my birthday. We went to one of my cousin's house and ordered pizza. It was good to see everyone again. Afterwards, you guessed it, my brother took me to Ben and Jerry's and treated me to ice cream. Seems that ice cream is a popular present these days. I didn't get anything out of the ordinary for my birthday except money but I don't expect anything anyways. Just having fun with my friends and family is all I ask for.
The craziest story I have related to my birthday has got to be the fact that I was born Sunday, July 26th, 1981 at 6:45 am. 1 year exactly on Sunday, July 25th, 1982 at 6:45 am my grandfather (mother's father) was pronounced dead (he was ill). My mom has always believed that I was born in time to replace him since his time was coming short (because he was old, not that he deserved to die or anything...). Well, I guess it just goes down from here with age...

Budman Returns

It's been almost a full month since I've last updated my blog. My computer was out of commission but one of my computer savy friends spruced it up and I can now continue and make the best blog ever (and complete Bryan's life - thanks for showing so much interest in my blog Bryan!)

So what have I done in the past month you ask? The answer: PLENTY. I may go into more details later but here is a sum of my newest adventures:
In the end of June I saw The Darkness. It was by far one of the best concerts I have seen. They really rocked. The lead singer, Justin Hawkins wore the craziest jumpsuits! The coolest part of the show was when all of a sudden he disappears from the stage and the bassist starts pointing to the crowd. When I looked to the right, Justin Hawkins was propped on a few bouncers' shoulders, walking through the croawd while playing a guitar solo. My buddy Sam almost fainted from so much joy (he was really clutching his chest).

The craziness of the concert spills into my next story. After the show I bought a t-shirt as a souvenir and so did Glen and Sam (making it the 3rd Darkness shirt he now owns) and of course the next day at work, we were all sporting the same shirt. After a concert like that there is nothing else you could wear! That night I was walking around Crescent street because I wasn't tired, checking to see if there was anyone I knew hanging out at one of the bars. I couldn't find anyone but so many people kept stopping me, screaming "THE DARKNESS! WOOO!". Just as I gave up and was walking home, I got picked up by three chicks. They stopped me to ask how the show was and then brought me to Hurley's Irish Pub for a beer. Turns out 2 of them are from Ireland living here for the summer. They got their work visas through a program called SWAP - Students Working Abroad Program. Every wednesday at Peel Pub, others on the program come out to meet people and have a good time. Through that, I've meet more girls from Scotland, Czech Republique and Germany. I've also gone out with the same people a few times. We since went to a salsa club - Cactus, Jello Bar and club 737. I still go every wednesday and party with them. It's great.

I was supposed to get my wisdom teeth removed on July 16th but because I got sick (probably from too much partying), I had to get it moved to august 11th. Can't wait to get it over with.

I've also come to discover that I have one of the chillest lab research jobs ever. Dr. Gray, my supervisor is one fo the nicest people I have ever met and is super relaxed. There is a french exchange student working for us for the summer and her project involves looking at why trees twist (they really do - lookt at old ones expecially) so Dr. Gray decided to take the whold lab group went on field trip to the Botanical Gardens? How cool is that? There some really kool bonzai plants and flowers. Everything was kool until we ran into a plant monster! But he was going to hurt us, he was really tired and was just looking for his bed (flower and bed, flower bed - wah wah wah...).

The last exciting thing I did in the past month was go out for my birthday which is tomorrow! I'll be a whopping 23. I went to Biftek with a binch of people to celebrate. It was a great time. About 25 of my friends showed up, some I haven't seen in a really long time. I was wise, I didn't have any beer... I had tons of shots instead. I only threw up once and still went back for another shot. I even played my best game of pool for the summer so far even though I couldn't see straight, it was so freaky!.

The next day I spent the day sitting in the sun at my supervisors cottage, riding on 3 hours of sleep. It was very relaxing. That night I went to see John Pinette. He is a comedian and was hilarious. Some of you might recognize him as the fat guy who's car was being stolen while Jerry Seinfeld and Co pointed and laughed at him, causing themselves to get thrown into jail during the last episode of Seinfeld.

As for today, I got my PC back. It's running great! I also streaked my hair red. It's running great! And I updated my blog. It's running great!

So keep coming back for I plan to start updating my blog more often. "Until next time - same Blog time same Blog channel". NANANANANA BUDMAN!

HOLY CRAP!!!

As some of you might know from my latest MSN nicknames, my computer is fucked up! I can't print, click on links that use javascript. Long story short, I can't update my blog at home. I need to reinstall windows. I happen to have enough time to use the computer at work to write this entry. So fellow fans of my blog, keep checking back on my blog and hopefully I'll have it updated again in the next couple of weeks! Don't lose sleep over this, the adventures of Budman shall return!

WHAT THE....?!?!

Ultra Freaky Ass Mini Post: All day yesturday there was a spot on my arm that was very itchy, possibly from a bug bite. When I got home my mom told me to go look in the top drawer in the bathroom to look for something to relief me of the icthing sensation. I open the drawer, start looking around, moving things and finally, WAY in the back, hidden behind other stuff, like my parents' toothbrushes and things, I discovered a giant tube of KY Jelly. This really freaked me out because I know my parents aren't hosting girl on girl wrestling matches in a kiddie pool filled with lubricant (à la Old School). I'm pretty sure the plumbing on my parents don't work anymore but with viagara and similar dugs these days, who knows... Please God, tell me I'm wrong!

International Producer

Last night I had one hell of a time. After work, I met up with some people and played ultimate frisbee for about an hour. It was a lot of fun. Once we were done, I headed over to the Fringe Fest, the alternative theater festival that is held every year. The show I went to see was called Pilk's Madhouse. It was supposed to be a comedy and was pegged as being "Monty Python meets Quentin Tarantino". All in all the show was fucked up but none-the-less funny and I still recommend it, especially if you go stoned.

After the show I ended up at the apartment, made Kraft Dinner for supper and then recieved a phone call from my buddy Sam. He invited me out for a nice relaxing evening of drinking beer at some bar on St. Laurent since there the street is all closed off for the St. Laurent Street Sale until sunday. We ended up meeting up with another good friend of mine, Joe, and went to two bars that night - Miami and Biftek. At Miami I ran into my buddy Greg and a bunch of his friends. Then after a few pitchers of beer, headed over to Biftek. The thing that made the night so enjoyable (and possibly nights to come) is the rumor that Sam created all of a sudden then last time I went out with him. He's concocted this story that I'm not just Joshua Budman, but in fact Joshua Budman: The International Producer of Ambient Trance Music. Originally, I didn't know what I produced, Same was just introducing me to people by saying "You don't know Joshua Budman, the INTERNATIONAL PRODUCER?" Finally someone asked what I produced. My first answer was porn, but that didn't go over very well, so it finally evolved into ambient trance music. That makes as much sense as does Cold Fussion since ambient music is laid back and slow while trance is up beat and fast. Anyways, I'm beginning to enjoy the faux title a bit too much. On the way home after the bars last night I ran into some random people and on e of them thought I was someone else. I told them they were mistaking me for someone else and her friends also agreed (they were all stoned by the way) but then I said "Don't you know who I am? I'm Joshua Budman, the international producer of ambient trance hip-hop" and one of them was all "really??". I said "no I'm just kidding." Then the lost interest in me so I left and went home. I think I'm going to keep this thing going on for while, you never know where it can lead me. So people, keep your eyes open for my latest production to hit the underground section at the local music stores in the near future.

Becoming One with my Feminine Side?

After being bugged by my friend Madeline (a.k.a Mad-Dog) for several days, I allowed her to do my nails. I didn't have the guts to let her do my finger nails but at least with my toes, I can cover them up with socks. She did them very creatively and made a special pattern or symbol on each toe. On my right foot she did a spider web, a spider, a flower and two creative designs while on my left foot she did sparkles, a clover, a creative looking B and two more creative patterns. I think it's kind of cool. My mom on the other hand does not. She came in my room and started to complain how messy my room is when all of a sudden she stopped talking. I turned to see why and all I see is her looking down at my toes and then at me. Immediately my mom says "what did yo do to your toes?!?! Scrape it off!!". I didn't think she'd care. Boy was I ever wrong. She was all "what happened?!?!". "My friend wanted to paoint my nails so I let her". Then my mom adds "You better not be turning gay!!! Or else!!" I don't know what's worse, thinking I'm gay because I have nail polish on my toe nails or the fact she threatened me to never become gay. For a good five minutes my mom just couldn't understand why I let someone paint my nails. I'm almost certain she thought I was kidnapped and forced to get it done because she kept acting like I've been subjected to some sort of crime or something. She also gave the typical "wait until your father see's this!". Good thing my father doesn't pay attention to most things because he walked in and out of my room several times and didn't mention a word. Then my mom came back in my room to put away my laundry just as I was taking the pictures of my toes. She looked at me, said "Joshua, you're embarrasing", and walked out.
My mom is pissed.

What a funny coincidence, but when I got home from the gym I ended up watching a movie on the digital TV we get. Out of all the movies to watch the same day I get my nails done for the first time, of course I had to end up watching Sorority Boys. Big laughs it aint, but I found it quite amusing. Basically, three guys get framed of stealing from the frat house they are part of known as KOK. They soon realize inside the frat is a tape that could have evidence that they are innocent. Their plan is then to infultrate the house by showing up as women which of course backfires, leaving them hopeless infront of a sorority. The rest of the movie is just how they live in the sorority and become more feminine while also trying to get the tape from the frat house. At one point two of the guys dressed as girls get into a fight and start yielding dildos they find like swords. The main chick even starts to fall in love with the main guy who's pretending to be a chick and all of sudden she's all lesbo, meanwhile she can't stand the guy when he's really a guy. In the end, the guy admits to being a guy and not a girl and after a brief moment of being pissed, the main chick eventually goes for the guy. This isn't the first time I've seen this. Does this really work? Well thankfully my mom only saw me with painted nails and not in women's underwear.

BBQ + Tam Tam = Great Weekend

Although it was 4 days ago, I had a great summer weekend. Saturday night was a good old fashion BBQ infront of an apartment. We ate food, drank beer and watched the hockey game. Too bad the Flames lost the cup (2 days later), but I've never really been a hockey fan so it didn't really hurt me or anything. After the BBQ, my night just didn't seem to end. And hit St. Laurent and ended up at Frappe. There, I bumped into a bunch of random peoeple I knew from school, including that same chick from Cafe Campus and Biftek (see previous posts). It was her last night in Montreal ever (yay!) but she pulled the "I'm going to go over here now" move (boo!). Two shots of scotch and a pitcher of really nasty tasting unknown beer I ended up at 2$ chow mein again (notice a the trend?) and then back at Biftek. There I bumped into a couple of guys I knew from Frosh who were heckling any women walking by. I had fun watching them make fools of themselves but they weren't really acknowledging my prescence so I left and went to bed.

The next morning, I got up at 12pm and ended up at the Tam Tams at around 2pm. Every sunday people head over to Mont Royal and just chill out. People sell things (mostly hand made stuff or things made out of hemp like hacky sacks or used for hemp like pipes), some play drums and others play hacky sack or just tan in the sun. Some people even use it as a reason to smoke up. I ended up walking up the mountain along it's main trail for the first time in my life after living here all life. It took a good 2 hours to walk up and down. We took a shortcut on the way down by cutting through the trees but you can tell it's been done over and over again since all the grass is missing. I then hung out with some friends and just layed down on the grass and stared at the sky for about an hour. It was so beautiful and relaxing. I recommend you do it sometime. Just lie on your back on the grass on a nice sunny day and just stare at the sky.

Convocation Part Deux: Graduation with a Vengeance!

Last thursday was the big day. I graduated from McGill University with an honours in chemistry. The ceremony was held outdoors on the McGill campus. They weather wasn't so great. It was pretty dull outside and down poured near then end of the ceremony but only for a few minutes. It wasn't as nice as it was for the faculty of management, they had theirs held on a beautiful sunny day, but it surely was better than the weather that the faculty of engineering had. The ceremony may have been long but it was held in the most pimped-out tent I have ever been in. There were lights, fans and giant movie screens for those who couldn't see the stage from far. I got to sit next to my buddy Glen so that wasn't so bad. The whole ceremony lasted about 2 and a half hours. Afterwards, there was a small party at Otto Maass, the chemistry building. It was fun but my brother Lorne happened to borrow a video camera and became "that annoying relative with the video camera in your face saying things like 'Quick! Do that again but in front of the camera!'" After the party I ended up at a kosher restaurant for dinner with my family. I had the general tao chicken and it was delicious!

My night then began for I left my family, went back to the apartment and chenged into more comfortable clothes to await my guests for a small party. I had a case of beer and about 15 people showed up. We then made our way to Biftek (a.k.a The Biffer) and I had a great time. At the end of the night I helped myself to 2$ chow mein that is located on Pins and St Laurent. It's so cheap and tasted so good when you're drunk.

That night also marked a night that I can finally say I went home with a girl. That is, I friend of mine who happens to be female needed a place to sleep and she came over to use the couch. Hey, whatever thoughts come to mind when the words "I went home with a girl", I am not responsible for.

Congradulations to Chemsitry Class of 2003-2004!

Convocation

This is it. Last thursday I switched from undergraduate-hood to gratuate-hood. Yes, thats right, I graduated from university. I know it's scary, I'm scared too. All of last week was pretty hectic, leading up to convocation. At the beginning of the week my mom started to get all freaky and repeatedly kept saying "oh look at my son! He's all grown up!". Tuesday night, after work, I decided to skip going home and hearing that for the eleventy billionth time and headed to Cafe Campus instead for their retro music night. It was a great time. It marked the first time going to Cafe Campus on a tuesday night that was not involved in some organized party affiliated with SUS, the science undergraduate society of mcgill university. I ended up drinking quite a bit. Once my friends and I got there we bumped into people we knew who gave us free drinks for going to graduate. Then, up on the dance floor, things got wild. I bumped into that girl I mentioned about in a previous post and all my friends were like "go for her dude!". I ended up hanging out with her group of friends but no dice, she was grinding with another guy. Oh well. Then, sometime during the night, I was walking accross the dance floor and all of a sudden two guys broke into a fight. Being in the state I was in, without thinking, I grabbed one of the guys and held him back. I'm lucky I didn't get killed because I'm not hulk (or am I?). Anyways, the bouncers came, took them away, and I thought to myself "well, my work here is done" and went on my way. Later on that night, I myself almost got into a fight because a friend of mine made out with a chick and asked me for a pen so he can take her phone number down. Being the friednly person I am, I got a pen for him at the bar. Then when I went to return the pen I pushed my way to the bar where a druken guy got mad at me because he thought I was budding in line to buy beer. Upon several attempts to tell him he was wrong, I diagnosed him as being too drunk to reason with and walked away but I was afraid he was about to start something with me. Thankfully, nothing happened.

Wednesday was a long day at work because I was really tired. I didn't get much done in the morning. By lunch time I decided to go get a haircut to look nice for the next day. While I was at the hairdresser, my cell phone rang. It was a friend from work saying my brother from Toronto called me. This was odd because he usually calls my cell phone, not my office at work. I finished up with my haircut and then on the street decided to call my brother in Toronto to see what it was he wanted. No one picked up so I decided to leave a message. While I was leaving a message I said "Hi Mark, this is Josh. You called me and..." and then I hear from behind me "Hello!". I turned around and he was right there in the flesh. Believe me, I was suprised. Appentally, it was planned for over a week that he was going to come in to see me at convocation.

It's late and I'm getting tired. Writing about the actual day of convocation will take up a post in itself so I'm going to write about that soon. Keep posted!

I Believe In a Thing Called Love!

It's official! I'm going to go see The Darkness! They are coming here at the end of June. They are only THE COOLEST band of the moment. They are kings of glam rock revival. Not only is it fun to watch them, their music also rocks! They play fast pase songs with arena guitar licks and lyrics about sex, drugs and rock and roll They even have a song titled "Growing On Me" which on the first few listens by the lyrics would make you think it's about a guy falling for a girl ("i can't get rid of you, I just don't know what to do"), but in fact it's about genital warts! Makes you think twice when you hear stuff like "Sleeping in an empty bed, can't get you OFF my head". It's hilarious! Plus who else can take a very depressing song like Street Spirit by Radiohead and make it sound like something from Queen? For that, The Darkness, Bono salutes you!

One Sec I Just Need to Pee

I just don't get it but what is up with woman and them having to announce when they have to go to the bathroom. Like when a guy has to go to take a piss he'll just say something like "I'll be right back" or "I just have to go to the bathroom, give me a sec". A girl on the other hand will say something like "I'm feeling really bloated! I really have to pee!". At least a guy doesn't announce what he's actually doing because there are other reasons why one would need to go to the bathroom, for instance, to wash their hands or something. I mean, do girls want to hear what we have to do in the bathroom? "I'll be right back, I'm going to go take a dump and read the sport section while I'm at it, just give me about 10, 15 minutes?" or "I really need to go jerk off while I fantasize about you naked, be right back". I don't know, I just think sometimes hearing "I need to pee" can knock me off guard. Well maybe it's just me.

Girls of the internet

Besides porn, the internet seems to be a haven for dating services. I'll admit, due to being shy and my bad luck with girls (see last post), I've put my picture on a few sites - HotorNot.com, Match.com, Yahoo Personals, Okay Amigo and my 'favorite' one JDATE. The last one is a jewish dating service, so I can meets JAPS - Jewish American PrincesseS, not Japanese people. The stereotype for jewish girls is that they are daughters of rich jews such as doctors or lawyers and are super stuck up and only care about themselves. Maybe this explains why I havn't tried dating any jewish girls yet. But thanfully it's only a stereotype because I plan on marrying a jewish girl. I didn't join any of the sites in hopes of finding my one true love or anything, it was more on a whim of being bored and it is a way to meet new people although I do admit it is kind of sketch. I have met a few people online but no one in person. Actually back in high school I met one in person and it was horrible. This girl was short, quite large (which is still okay) but had a mustache and side burns (swing and a miss). I have about 3 - 4 people on my MSN list that I chat to once in a while but have never met in person. Some of them are pretty cool but there is a limit to how close I will become to these people. Because i have my profile on those sites, I get these e-mails from them with potential 'matches'. Reading what people write can be hilarious at times. All that girls seem to be looking for are guys that are good looking, outgoing, have a great sense of humor and like going out and having fun. And it's not like 1 or 2 people just write that - almost every single girl on theose websites are looking for just those characteristics. Well if that's all they want, why isn't there a line up of girls waiting to go on dates with me?!?!I should be a pimp daddy The greatest joy I get from these sites is that to view someones profile, it's free but in order to contact another member, you have to pay. However, some girls hide in their profile an e-mail address on how to contact them. So it's like a game trying to decypher the hidden message that put and if I get a reply message from them it means I won! I have yet to meet someone who's normal and really exciting this way but you never know it could happen. In any case I know I'm bound to meet someone this summer. This is the summer of BUDMAN!

Tom Arnold is my Idol!

I just got home from watching one of the best movies this summer, and by best, I mean worst and by this summer, I mean ever. The movie was Soul Plane. It has an all star cast: Snoop Doggy Dog, Method Man and, wait for it... TOM ARNOLD! Talk about Blacksploitation! I really don't get it. Instead of it being white people making fun of black people stereotype, it's black people making fun of black people stereotype. Well in the end I guess everyone gets paid. So the premise of this movie (and believe me I'm not spoiling anything), is this guy goes on a plane and everyone is white and it looks like he's getting treated poorly for being black. Then he has to go take a dump and while in the bathroom gets stuck on the toilet. In an attempt to get out, the luggage capartment openeds and his dog flies out and dies. He then sues the airlines, gets a million dollars and decides to start his own airlines. He calls it NWA and then its all corby jokes like they are located at gate Malcolm X and their flrght 069. The plane has First class, middle class and lower class. First class being all decked out in leather couches and tables, middle class looking like a business room and lower class having busted tv's, lockers for luggage cabinets and bus station poles in the back. There's a guy who works in the bathroom and did I mention the club upstairs? The whole movie is just over an hour. What I just described happens in the first 30 minutes followed by about 25 minutes of stuff going on before the plane even leaves the ground. Then they get off the ground and 15-20 minutes later the captain (Snoop Dog) dies. Then they spend the last 20 minutes trying to land the plane. It has some funny moments but most of it is corny. If you like sex jokes and chessy gags, this is your movie. If you want to spend your 13$ on something worthwile, go see Shrek 2.

Outgoing on the outside but shy on the inside

It's Victoria Day weekend and what better way to celebrate than to go out drinking. Last night for an hour was open bar at Cheers downtown. I went with Glen and afterwards we ended up at Biftek (the bar, not the restaurant) where I met up with Greg and my buddy Mike. All in all I had a good time. However, while I was there, I bumped into a girl I have known for a while now. I don't know her well but I will admit I think she's cute. I first met her my first year at McGill, we were in the same frosh group. Since then I've seen her around at various parties and events around school. She even showed some interest in me recently when I found out that she tried buying me at a bachelor auction. I volunteered to sell my body to raise money for the Kidney Foundation. A few friends of mine (all girls) pooled together their money to buy me and someone kept competing against them until they bid for too much (50$) and the mystery person backed down. At first my friends were all happy until they realized that they ruined a chance of me going on a real date (they all have boyfriends). I later found out that the mystery person was her. However, I didn't make a move then (she showed herself and I was like "Wow you're the one who was bidding against my friends?!? We then talked for about a minute until she said "I'm going to go over there now...") and I didn't try anything last night. I was pretty smooth at the beginning since I was walking outside of the bar to be able ot hear my cell phone better and on the way out I noticed her, tapped her, she got all excited and said hi and gave me a hug to which I smoothely said "hold that thought" and walke dout for a few minutes to take the call. But after my phone call, she was busy with her friends so I didn't go up and talk to her. So being shy I thought I'd wait, but then she left with her friends ("I told myself I'll go a little later, I'll go a little later, but when I got there, they said he had already left, and when I asked if he'd come back, they said probably not..." -Homer J. Simpson).

Just a little background on myself but my luck with girls hasn't been that great since high school but has been getting better lately. I had a few crushes in high school but nothing ever surfaced from them. Too many stories to post but here are a few. In grade 8 I went to the school dance and after dancing alone for while, a girl came up to me, but instead of asking me to dance, she slapped me and threatened to kill me if she ever saw me again. Then in grade 10 I learnt it's not a good idea to write in someone's yearbook that you have a crush on them, because that girl went psycho after she read the note I wrote in her book. I thought I'd have better luck in cegep, but no dice. I had a thing for a girl, called her up, asked her out and she freaked out on the phone and said "I need to go sleep now..." and hung up. The next day I found out a friend of mine also called her up and asked her out 2 hours before I did. Don't worry though, university had been a bit better. I've met tons of people and even a few really nice girls. I still didn't have the guts to do anything but I'm slowly breaking out of my shell. This past year really showed it. I'm not afraid to admit that it was this year that I had my first kiss because the story behind it is really funny. During frosh I met a girl who I thought was really cool and on the last night of frosh she admitted to me that she thought I was cute. Eventually I ended up at her apartment and we sat down on the couch. We talked for a bit (note: we were both drunk and tired) and then I mentioned something about not having ever been kissed. She then replied "do you want your first kiss now?". We then kissed and then killed any Kodak moment we had by saying "Wow! That tasted like jelly fish!", not that I would know what jelly fish tastes like...but I that's what I said. Then I started to fall asleep on the couch but I kept trying to keep my eyes open and talk. All I remember saying while trying to keep my eyes open was something like "blah blah blah porno" and she replied "yeah I totally know what you mean". To this day I don't even know what I meant. Nothing ended up happening and I never heard from her again but it was probably for the best because the next morning after breakfast she got a call and let the machine take it. Some guy said "Hey it's me call me back" and she then tells me "oh yeah, I really should break up with him".

Well to further the trend, I now have an apartment so now I can get laid! No! So I can go out more often and meet people instead of leave at 11:00pm when the parties usually start. I have a feeling I'm really going to enjoy myself this summer, and if I meet someone I'll just look at it as a bonus. You know what? I think I'm going to put some effort into finding out that girl's phone number and give her a call. What's the worst that can happen?

BYOBB - Bring Your Own Beer for Budman

Last night I threw a party at the apartment. I didn't really want to but some friends at work were bugging me to do so. Then when I sent off an e-mail they were all "oh we were just kidding about that". Well, they all got their wish, and it was the coolest party ever in the history of parties! (or at least of parties thrown by me, being my second only). I decorated the apartment a little with red streamers. 20 people showed up and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. It was mostly people from McGill Improv and a few people from work and chemistry. There was a conference that Marianna went to the day before and brought 2 girls from some university in Boston called TUFTS, I think, it took the one I was talking to a long time to get that into my head. She seemed really cool but couldn't believe that I didn't know that California is located at the west coast of the United States. I'm really bad at geography. I don't even know canadian geography well, I always fell aslep in that class during high school. At 1:30am everyone left and a few of us got to Peel Pub. By this time I was pretty loaded. I don't drink much but I had about 3 nice glasses of gin and tonic. I had less than him, but Glen and I shared a 20 oz. bottle of gin and we finished it before hitting the bar. All I remember about Peel Pub was we ordered a giant pitcher of beer, I sang a lot to the songs, Greg threw some glasses at the concrete walls because we were given too many, and one of the girls with us got pissed because Greg spilled beer on her by accident (or on purpose, I'll never know). When I got back to the apartment, I just jumped into bed and slept in until 1:30pm. I didn't feel sick when I woke up, no hangover, but I could ahve sworn I still felt drunk but that made no sense. The apartment wasn't that messy but it still took me 2 hours to clean up. Ah, the downfalls of having a party with no one crashing over. Well since I plan on having a party every week (I'm sure Andrew won't mind), I left all the decorations up and the fridge is still full with beer. Hoozah!

This one's for Alex Wlasenko

I've been told that when I go out to parties and events, after having a few drinks, I tend to put on the same face when ever a picture is taken. Yes, I tend to open my mouth. I never realized I did it so much until Alex mentioned that he checked out my photo album and noticed that's what I do in every picture. Turns out he's right (click on next to see all the pics).

McGill Improv and On The Spot - Forces Unite!

I have been performing improv with the McGill Improv club for about 2 years now. Not only are the members talented and funny but they are great people to hang out with outside of improv. We meet once a week for a 2 hour workshop (6:30pm lobby of the Shatner building on thursdays), but we also play ultimate frisbee together and throw parties. This past tuesday, however, we got the honor to open up for one of the two professional improv troupes, On The Spot, which actually spawned from the McGill Improv back in the day (about 14 years ago) under another name. The other professional troupe is Without Annette, which also spawned from McGill Improv but more recently (about 6 years ago). We had a 20 minute set and were only 4 performers, I being one of them, along with Alice, Marianna and Maryam. Yes, all women! We ended up doing a great set and On The Spot were hilarious. After the show, a few of us decided to go to Ben and Jerry's. While we were there, this bum showed up, started to interupt Alice's conversation and then told Bryan that he shouldn't touch with his 'willy' in public, referring to Bryan having a hand in his pocket. Then when we all left and I walked in one direction with Bryan, the same guy jumped at me and pointed a banana like it was a gun and said "give me all your money, hahaha!" and walked away talking to himself. That's wen I realized I had the honor of bumping into the famous bum with the banana gun (as mentioned in the Montreal Mirror) So I got to meet a famous improv troupe and a famous bum in one day, what are the odds?

Now thats how you make a drink!

So after the gym, my buddy Glen and I decided to check out this Flair competition at Cheers (the one downtown). Flair, not to be confused with flare or Rick Flair, involves making drinks while juggling the bottles and doing tricks with them. You may remember this as seen in the movie Cocktail staring Tom Cruise, or not. It was actually a lot of fun to watch. A few guys did some crazy tricks. One guy, however, was said to have been practicing for 8 years but he dropped a bottle before he even started. He wasn't that great in the end. Another guy was juggling the mixing cups so fast, he accidently let one slip and it went flying staight towards a competitors head. After about 5 guys, it all started to look the same so we left. All in all it was a good night.
